#MY SEXY SATURDAY and WHERE EAGLES CRY

My sentences are from WHERE EAGLES CRY...

THE STORY

Jilted by love, in 1834 Cara Lindsay sails from Boston to Mexico’s rugged California to begin a new life with a favorite aunt. Heartbroken to learn her aunt has died, she takes a companionship position to the wife of Don Miguel Navarro, the tough and irresistible owner of a major inland rancho.

Prior to her arrival, Miguel’s wife had suffered a permanent brain injury in a suspicious fall, and the lonely ranchero’s heart opens to Cara’s kindness and beauty like parched earth to rain.

Yet love may break Cara’s heart again, for she would never be any man’s mistress. She needs to leave, but dark undercurrents she doesn't understand flow around her. Native superstition says when the ranch bells ring and an eagle cries, someone dies, and several have. Until  ships sail for Boston months away, she’s trapped in the midst of danger and an impossible love.

When next the bells ring and the eagle cries, will she be the one to die?

SNIPPET FROM CHAPTER 5

They were the only bits of human life on the barren flatlands when she first heard the bells. Their distant, deep-throated pleading brought a sudden whorl of wind that whipped her skirts against the toes of Cara's shoes as she walked and spun the dust into a phantom eddy under the curtaining sky.

The horses whinnied and pawed, flinging their manes and flaring their nostrils against, she thought then, the stirred scents of that glorious and wild country. Ramon moved to quiet them.

From somewhere what must have been a large bird screamed. At that cry, Maria gave a little groan of fear, crossing herself and pulling her dark shawl protectively tighter while her hands fumbled for her rosary...

SEDUCING A DRAGON - BLOG HOP

WELCOME TO THE BOOK HOOKS BLOG HOP

My contribution novella is a medieval fantasy set in an imaginary land, and was inspired by an illustration in the now closed Realms of Fantasy magazine. I wanted in the worst way to tell the story of the breathtakingly beautiful princess riding through a flowery meadow with an entourage of elves and other magical creatures. She evolved into a Golden Dragon shifter as I wrote, but don't ask me how or why.  .  . Dee Ann Palmer

He'd pulled the destrier up at the edge of the forest, but now Xertan was turning in circles in an attempt to retreat back into the woods. Rodick brought the great stallion under control. He wanted to gaze longer at this perfection.

That she rode alone surprised him, for her head was crowned with a golden circlet with four high prongs. It was the headpiece of a princess-royal, although of a house unknown to him. He knew of no princesses resembling this one, and he was acquainted with, or thought he was, those of every castle in the area. Had even bedded a few of them, he thought with a wry smile. But this woman, instinct told him, would fulfill every fantasy a lusty man could have in bed. And then some.

MY SEXY SATURDAY 7 #50 - ROMANCE & DEADLY LIAISONS

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

THIS IS A $.99 COLLECTION OF SHORT MURDER MYSTERIES, THE AUTHOR'S BIO, WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT THE SCIENCE OF KILLERS' BRAINS TODAY (HENCE THE TITLE DANGEROUS MINDS), AND A TOUCH OF ROMANCE FROM WHERE EAGLES CRY.

THE 7 PARAGRAPHS HERE ARE FROM THE COLLECTION'S MARATHON MADNESS. THE SETTING IS A ROOM IN THE HISTORIC BILTMORE HOTEL, WHERE I HAVE STAYED. I HAVE COMPLETED SEVERAL LOS ANGELES MARATHONS AND, ALTHOUGH THEY CHANGE THE COURSE PERIODICALLY, I CHOSE FOR THIS STORY ONE I HAVE COMPETED ON.

SOMEONE HAS STOLEN SUVIE'S NEW BUT BROKEN-IN RUNNING SHOES...

Now I had something else to think about—running in old shoes. Thankfully, I’d brought them, but they had broken down. Without their usual cushioning, I’d finish the race with the bottoms of my feet burning. I might get blisters that would make it impossible for me to finish. At worst, I  could end up with stress fractures. I was a very unhappy camper.
In bed, in the darkness, I felt Hal reach for me.
I grew rigid. “I thought they didn’t allow this sort of thing the night before your NFL games.”
He stroked my arm, his fingers strong yet gentle. “Come on, baby, you’re tied up in knots. Roll over so I can get to your back.”
Reluctantly, I let him knead the knots out of my shoulders and long muscles.
And when he moved to other things, well, I had a little hint that the pre-game rules hadn’t always been followed in the NFL. I drifted to sleep feeling loose and satisfied.

SEXY 7 SATURDAY #49 BLOG HOP

HOW TO SEDUCE A DRAGON IS AVAILABLE NOW for Kindle and Nook!

For this week's Hop, authors are featuring sensual and sexy heroines. Here's my sexy shifter dragon in 7 paragraphs--

The Mystericale Faire had been so much fun. Arondele had loved how different it was from anything she'd ever known in the dragon world. Except for the woman Marinyxa, whose purple ribbon Rodick had refused, gaiety had been the mood of the faire goers. Even the knight who'd lost out to Rodick for the racing prize had been cheerful rather than envious. Unfortunately, in a situation like that, dragons could be very testy.

Memories of those last moments in the hut, of Rodick's mouth on hers as his tongue played with hers, and of his hands cradling her face while they kissed, were fresh and wonderful. She hugged herself, remembering the marvel of feeling this close to someone, whether human or her kind.

If this was what being with a male dragon would be like, she'd love it. Then she went still, and the day with her knight faded. What if mating with a dragon doesn't feel at all the same?

Pushing the frightening thought from her mind, she changed, rising on her back legs, her wings folded behind. The pond caught her reflection, and she saw a body similar in power and grace to her mother Nombella's, with topaz eyes and the same rich glint off golden scales. Like her father's, her head bore the multiple, tall spikes of her royal heritage. This was why in human form she'd chosen to create a spiked circlet of gold to wear.

She'd thought her mother beautiful. Would dreigomen--the male dragons--consider Gloriana lovely, too? When she flew in the ritual, would any male fly up to mate with her, or would she circle ignored and alone in the heavens?

And if no one chose her, would she still be able to fulfill her destiny?

Shivers swept through her. Don't think about that. Think happy thoughts. She forced her fears out, replacing them with memories of her day with Rodick at the faire and in the hut. Warmth spread through her, and she gave a satisfying cry as she spread her wings and flew toward the white castle of King Dreicomar in the Nordrung mountains. Tomorrow would be another day with her own special knight.
